How to become a forensic scientist

Forensic Science is a multi-disciplinary branch of science that is widely used in the investigation of numerous crimes. It partially plays the role of delivering justice to the suspects and punishment penalties to the culprits. A pretty important element of criminal justice hinges on the accuracy of testing of shreds of evidence found on crime scenes.

Forensic Science wonderfully uses the application of scientific knowledge and bears the fruits of patience and hard work in the form of bringing the secret out from the darkness. However, the crime rate is escalating everywhere and so it’s scope. And it’s been seen that with the gradual awareness of the field of forensic science, many students are seeking their career in this sector.

Irrefutably, we can say that the demand for forensic experts is high as they are not only needed in crime investigation but also in crucial researches. And as we are emerging the phase of advancement, the requirement of forensic tech experts is also pooling. Thereby, creating abundant job opportunities and careers in this department in India.

Now the very first question that arises is who can be a forensic expert and how can one become so? That simply underlines the few requirements for an aspirant to be a forensic professional and that is-

  • One needs to pursue their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics.
  • The aggregate percentile in 10+2 should be 45% at least.
  • After this, one needs to pursue further graduation in forensic science, i.e., B.Sc. Forensic Science.
  • After BSc , one can either pursue their M.Sc. Forensic Science or PG Diploma in the same.

So that was roughly the pathway one has to follow to build up their career in forensic science. And now, without further ado, let’s discuss how one can get admitted in the course of B.Sc. Forensic Science after class 12th.

Due to its uniquely designed field structure, one has to be competent enough to deal in various spheres such as logical and reasoning thinking ability, a strong background of scientific knowledge and diligently aware of how and where to use that, and so on. However, it has been observed that many students are drawn towards this career path as the result of famous T.V. shows such as C.I.D., Crime Patrol, etc., but in reality, they are not much enlightened about this field. For this specific reason only, this national level exam AIFSET has come on board to assess the candidate’s suitability for this particular field.

Therefore, if any aspirant wants to pursue their career, they must appear in this national-level exam first. And by appearing on this exam, they not only acknowledge themselves but will also get themselves admitted to the top participating universities of AIFSET.
